three days ago, i celebrated my one-year anniversary living here in the sultanate by visiting muttrah souq and a lamb-chop dinner at the turkish palace. now, in a little over three weeks, i'll be leaving oman for the us, by way of a one-month sojourn around western europe - through portugal, spain, france, switzerland and germany. thank goodness for eurail.
what an adventure this year has been! ramadan is halfway over, definitely went by a lot quicker than last year. guess that's what happens when you're wrapping things up rather than starting up. i must hit the beach at least twice before i leave, to soak up that beautiful omani sun and pick up some seashells (i've amassed quite a collection, i have to say). there are too many people to say goodbye to, but thankfully, my academic interests have morphed into something that will probably allow me to come back and visit this fascinating country, although in a field completely different from what i originally came here to do. i miss home terribly, now that it seems so close (yet so far away!). but i know that soon after my feet touch american soil, my wanderlust will once again kick in and i will long for more adventures in foreign lands. but until then, i must scheme to get someone else, like the lovely us government, to pay for such things ... :)
in the meantime, i'll still be blogging (inshallah) at this address until home, when i'll probably switch back to a former blog. guess i should change the header from 'dispatches from muscat' to 'dispatches from europe,' which probably doesn't sound as exciting as the former.
