a stream of consciousness ... and gratefulness

i have been quite fortunate this past week to come closer to fully realising the potential of my fulbright project ... and to realising the reason of why i am here, a reason, which, cannot be fully expressed at the present time, but each day, i feel more of a sense of purpose, rather than ... ok, what should i do today to make myself productive.

i came to this country with certain expectations, and naturally, reality cannot meet the best of your imaginations. i had all these expectations about my living situation, the people who i would be spending my time with, the potential to make friends ... all of such. all proved to be more difficult than expected and before last week, i was growing quite impatient and grumpy at how my reality had formed around me. i was longing for being surrounded by like-minded people, at least people who have come from a similar mindset as mine, and i increasingly got frustrated at little comments or ideas or anything really.

then, i realised ... i can change all this with just a change of attitude. thanks to a random run-in with a friend at the bookstore, my outlook on my current life in muscat had changed and my dour mood had turned around. i drove home with a warm fuzzy feeling, smiling, not really caring about the horrible-ness that is the english language radio station ...

i have been riding on that high ever since last week and i hope that it doesn't end for a long time ... al-hamdulillah, i am going on a day trip tomorrow to visit some old SQCC friends in the towns of Adam and Ibra, respectively, and i'm more than excited. i am absolutely relishing in the freedom of my life at the moment, the constant turns and twists that the road takes and just learning once again how to live in the moment. i have become more and more grateful that i am here and once again loving the little things ... the warm beach sand, kids playing in the sea, the cool ocean breeze as i walk out of my apartment ...

i hope that made sense.
